D&D Dice FAQ

Got questions before you roll? Here are the ones we hear most from new players, veteran dice goblins and DMs. Still stuck? Send us a message and we will help you pick a set.

What dice do I need to play D&D?

One standard 7-piece polyhedral set: a d4, d6, d8, d10, d% (percentile), d12 and d20. Every set we sell includes all seven, so one set is all you need for your first session. New to the dice? Our guide to what each D&D die does breaks it down.

What are the best D&D dice for beginners?

Resin dice are the easiest place to start. They are durable, light, easy to read and come in tons of designs. If you want something more premium, sharp edge, inclusion and metal dice all work fine for new players too. See our resin dice or read the beginner dice guide.

Which die gets used the most in D&D?

The d20. You roll it for attacks, saving throws and skill checks, so it is worth getting one you actually like looking at.

Are liquid core dice balanced?

Yes. On a well-made set the liquid core sits centered and the resin shell keeps the weight even, so they roll consistently in normal play. We pick our liquid core dice for playability first, not just looks.

Do liquid core dice leak?

Quality liquid core dice are fully sealed, and leaks are extremely rare. Rolling in a dice tray helps protect both the dice and your table.

What is the difference between sharp edge and regular dice?

Sharp edge dice are cast in precision molds and keep crisp corners and flat faces. Regular dice are usually tumbled, which leaves them with rounded edges. Browse our sharp edge dice.

Are metal dice safe to use on a table?

Yes, but they are heavy, so most players roll them in a dice tray to avoid dings. We carry dice trays and bags too. Shop solid metal dice.

What are the best dice for a Dungeon Master?

DMs tend to love statement dice: solid metal sets or our 35mm Chonk D20s for boss attacks and big moments.

Are dice a good gift if I don't know the player's character?

Yes. Dice work for any class and any campaign. If you do know their class, you can shop by class, like Wizard, Rogue, Barbarian or Bard. Our D&D dice gift guide has more ideas.

Where do your dice ship from?

All orders ship from the United States, and we ship to customers in the US and Canada. Details are in our shipping and returns guide.
